Fee Schedule

All recording fees, filing fees and costs for certified copies are set by North Carolina law as set out in NCGS 161-10 and 25-9-525. The fees below became effective October 1, 2011.

Payment Policy

The Register of Deeds Office accepts cash, money orders, and in state checks for all transactions. All checks and money orders should be made payable to: Duplin County Register of Deeds. In addition, debit and credit card payments are accepted for any transaction that totals $5 or more. However, debit and credit card payments are not accepted for those fees associated with the recording of real property instruments and the payment of the North Carolina excise tax.

Returned Check Policy

It is the policy of the Duplin County Finance Office to charge a processing fee of $25.00 on all checks returned for insufficient funds.

A standard document meets the following criteria. If a document fails to meet any one of these criteria, the non-standard document fee will be added.

  • Paper size is 8.5″ x 11″ or 8.5″ x 14″
  • Blank margin of 3″ at top of first page.
  • Blank margin of .25″ on remaining sides of first page and on all sides of subsequent pages.
  • Typed or printed in black on white paper in a legible font.
  • A font size no smaller than 10 point shall be considered legible.
  • Blanks in an instrument may be completed in pen and corrections to an instrument may be made in pen.
  • One-sided only.
  • Instrument type is stated at top of first page.
